Design Capabilities

A dedicated design engineering department routinely creates new designs to meet customer requirements, and also performs design modifications to catalog items to meet customer performance requirements or integration needs. Some members of our design team have several decades of experience designing electromagnetic clutches and brakes.

Our team uses the latest design and analysis technologies, including SolidWorks for computer modeling, COMSOL for magnetic simulation (FEA), and SolidWorks for structural, modal, and heat simulations (FEA).

Manufacturing Capabilities

SEPAC machining capabilities are versatile and comprehensive. Utilizing MasterCam in conjunction with our SolidWorks model files enables us to produce simple to complex geometries utilizing either standard tooling, or dedicated in-house fabricating fixturing.

Core manufacturing equipment:

  • CNC turning centers: (2) C-axis live tooling
  • (5) CNC milling centers (3 and 4 axis capable)
  • (3) Single point gear shapers
  • Horizontal broach machine
  • ID / OD and surface grinders
  • (3) Molding presses
  • Various manual lathes, mill, and grinders and secondary fabrication equipment

The SEPAC assembly and test department is adaptable and responsive. We use our individual strengths to form a flexible, multi-functional team which performs all electro-mechanical assembly as well as necessary testing of our products.

Key assembly features:

  • Flexible for high mix – low volume production
  • Dedicated work cells for long run jobs
  • Epoxy bonding: Programmable oven 550F deg
  • Electrical resistance testing
  • Test dynamometer
  • VideoJet ink part marking system

Inspection Capabilities

SEPAC utilizes advanced equipment to inspect the requirements of our customer’s complex projects. This is accomplished mainly through the use of two fixed-based Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM’s) and a programmable Optical Comparator. Our largest fixed based CMM has a measuring volume of 54″ x 36″ x 28″ while our second CMM has the ability to check unique features due to its interchangeable probe head. All CMM’s are equipped with the most up-to-date inspection software, providing SEPAC the ability to verify results faster and with greater precision.

In addition to the automated inspection equipment, we have over 600 calibrated gages in our database, allowing SEPAC the flexibility needed to meet almost any inspection requirement. This combined with detailed inspection plans and LEAN principles provide complete, accurate and thorough inspection results for our customers.

History: American Made

SEPAC was founded by Gary Packard and Curran Sekella in 1984 (SE- from Sekella, -PAC from Packard) as a company looking to thrive in a market their previous employer, Purolator Facet/Bendix, did not wish to explore. With the drive, vision and willingness to put the customer first, SEPAC has grown from a two man operation to a fully operational engineering/manufacturing company still located in its place of origin, Elmira, NY.

Due to SEPAC’s ability to react rapidly to customer requests in both the engineering and manufacturing realm, we were quickly sought after to be involved in many projects within the aerospace and military defense world. Using this experience, SEPAC was able to invest its resources and diversify its portfolio to encompass not only the aerospace and defense markets, but also the industrial and commercial arenas as well.

Presently, SEPAC resides in a new 28,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with room to expand as our business continues to trend upward. Our AS9100 Rev D and ISO 9001:2008 certifications showcase our commitment to quality in both our internal processes and facility manufacturing.

We are proud to say our motion control products are American made and manufactured at our facility in upstate NY. This allows us to oversee every detail – from the initial design, to the prototype, to every part of the manufacturing process – to be sure we meet your needs exactly and provide superior brake and clutch solutions
