The Challenge

SEPAC was approached by a large company to assist in development of a next-generation nuclear power facility. Our responsibility was to produce a specialized brake that could stand the test of time in a fully encapsulated nuclear environment and a smaller dimensional footprint while withstanding higher than normal holding torque values.

The Solution

Many variables are to be expected in an undertaking of this magnitude. Working directly with the customer's design engineers as well as their project manager, SEPAC recognized and worked with the project's many unique design requirements. Knowing the importance of functionality in an application such as this, no detail was left to chance, and special precautions were taken including the addition of fail-safe protection to the brake itself.

Production

After the design was completed and subsequently approved, SEPAC began manufacturing the prototype brakes which would then undergo independent testing for a variety of data including manufacturing accuracy, potential mechanical wear, temperature extremes, power consumption, and more. Upon successful completion of the testing, the custom brakes were manufactured in accordance to our AS9100 quality policy.

The Results

Our engineering group at SEPAC was able to successfully design a brake that would outperform the stringent standards set forth by the customer. This product was manufactured successfully as well as shipped ahead of schedule. This is just another example of how SEPAC can bring the customer's ideas to life and surpass their expectations in every way.
