This past weekend and for the first time in nine years, NASA astronauts were launched into space from US soil. This in and of itself was an achievement given all the time and effort that goes into this undertaking, but the successful lift-off from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, FL was not the only thing that made history.
This momentous mission dubbed “SpaceX Demo-2”also featured NASA partnering with a commercial space organization, SpaceX, which has never been done in the 61 years NASA has been in service. After the launch, a nineteen-hour journey ensued until the Crew Dragon spacecraft reached and successfully docked with the International Space Station or ISS.
SEPAC has been working with a large OEM on multiple space rated programs for many years. The products we designed, manufactured and provided to this customer were specifically for space events as seen the morning of May 31st, 2020. When the SpaceX spacecraft successfully docked at the ISS at 10:16am with no issues, those at SEPAC had the ability to witness the success of years of engineering development and manufacturing expertise come to fruition before their very eyes.
A big thank you to those involved in every department within SEPAC as well as our strong list of suppliers. Without each of your contributions we would not be able to celebrate such an incredible program for which SEPAC plays such a critical role in mission success!
